Story #8 - Samara's parents discusses the possible hurricane, Eastern time: 9:45 pm
Samara and her brother, Eaton are listening to their parents plan for the possible Hurricane Matthew. They live in the beautiful state of Florida and this is one of the bad things about living here: hurricanes! Hurricane Matthew is now pounding on the beautiful island of Jamaica, where Samara and her family spent this past summer on their vacation. "I hope this hurricane does not destroy the beautiful Jamaica!" Samara was concerned for the beautiful island and decided to say a prayer for them when she first heard the news that they were going to be hit. "We all hope that the people of Jamaica will be okay and that there will not be that much damage." said her mother. "That is why we have to be prepared just in case it turns towards Florida." her dad said. "Your mother and I will go to the store tomorrow and buy extra supplies just in case we are hit and lose power. We will buy extra batteries for the radio and all of our flashlights." Everyone in the family had their own personal flashlight for times like this - just in case they lose the power in their home. They also had lots of candles, matches, canned foods, medicine for fevers, and other important things that they may need. Samara hears her parents talking about the last terrible hurricane called "Wilma" that hit Florida back in October 2005, but Samara was not born yet, so she did not experience it. "If Hurricane Matthew does come to Florida - this will be my first hurricane!" Samara said nervously. "Relax, Samara, your mother and I will keep you and your brother safe, so you do not have to worry. Besides, remember what we taught you?" Samara thought for a moment, but could not come up with an answer. Her brother, Ethan remembered and said, "That God will protect over us, but we have to do our part to stay out of harm's way." Ethan looked so proud that he had remembered what his dad had said and gave a smug look at Samara and said, "Remember that, meatball head, hahaha!" Samara frowned up and said, "Shut up, toad face!" Their parents were not amused and both said together, "Stop it, you two, no more name-calling!" Their mother then said, "Besides, it is getting late, and you both have to wash up for bed. You have school tomorrow." They both went upstairs to start getting ready for bed while their parents continued planning their hurricane supply list downstairs.
